Exciting news – 4 new German school projects in New York!
Have you heard? There are not one, not two, but four new and exciting German school and preK programs opening this fall in New York City. We attended all the open houses and are blown away by the quality, professionalism, quality and drive of the people building schools for our bilingual children.
German School Manhattan
Led by Ilka Woerner, the German School Manhattan (GSM) will open it’s doors on September 5th in a newly renovated space in the heart of Tribeca (one short stop from the Chambers street stop). The 2018/19 Kindergarten class has still a few open spots. The school will grow 1 class per year up to 5th grade and the plan is to integrate middle school with the German School Brooklyn.
German Dual Language Program
The GDLP was born from a parent initiative let by Sylvia Wellhoefer and Nina Zieling who believed that the German language deserved their own public school dual language program as it’s wide-spread in the city for languages like Spanish and French. A PreK and Kindergarten class started in 2017/18 with a German enrichment program and the first full dual language class is set to start this fall. This publish school program is completely free of charge. The German classes are provided by teachers from the Goethe Institut New York.
Rella’s Spielhaus – new location UWS
Rella’s Spielhaus is a well established day care in Harlem since 2011. In addition to the daycare, Rella’s also offers Kinderklassen all over the city and a successful summer camp in the UWS. This fall Rella’s is expanding into a much larger newly renovated space in the UWS. The program accommodates children from 3 months up to 5 years. There are a few spots available for this fall.
Oliwia’s Kinderhouse
This in-home daycare is the “new kid” on the block located in Tribeca close to the German School Manhattan. Oliwia’s Kinderhouse will offer full day care in small groups for 4-7 children. Their first Open House will be on Saturday, June 2nd from 12-3PM.
